Blondie - Picture This

“All I want is 20-20 vision

A total portrait with no omissions

All I want is a vision of you”

So, who am I and why does Picture This exist?

I’m Michael Jones, a professional photographer based in Christchurch.

I started Smoke&Mirrors Studio in 2019 — Christchurch’s first dedicated boudoir photography studio — and I’ve also spent years photographing live music through Music Project.

But I have a whole pile of photographic ideas I want to try. Mostly portraits. Some simple, some creative, some involving far too much lighting equipment. And I’m sure you have ideas of your own.

That’s where Picture This comes in.

Picture This is my TFP – time for photos – photography project. There’s no money changing hands. Instead, we collaborate on a shoot and you receive the finished, edited images afterwards.

I have far too many flashes, softboxes, umbrellas, snoots, optical projectors and coloured gels. And, frankly, I’d quite like to use them.

How it works

It’s pretty simple. One of us comes up with an idea for a photo shoot. It might be something you’ve always wanted to try, or one of the many ideas currently rattling around in my head.

If you haven’t photographed with me before, fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page, below the photo carousel. All Picture This sessions use our standard TFP contract. I’ll send you a link to the contract and a short pre-session questionnaire by email.

Come along and have some fun. Most Picture This sessions take place in my home studio in Casebrook. There’s a private bathroom available if you need somewhere to change.

Once I’ve finished editing, your images will be uploaded to your own private, password-protected online gallery. You’ll be able to view and download your finished images and use them for your own non-commercial purposes. You're welcome to come back for a Photo Reveal session too.

The whole point is to have fun, experiment, make some great photographs and have a good time doing it.
