The story so far

Smoke&Mirrors Studio was started by your host and photographer, Michael Jones, in 2019.

Back then, there wasn’t a dedicated boudoir photography studio in Christchurch. There were a couple of photographers offering the occasional nude or erotic shoot, but nothing quite like Smoke&Mirrors. So we decided to change that.

Smoke&MirrorsStudio became Christchurch’s first dedicated boudoir photography studio, creating stylish, sensual images for women who wanted to see themselves in a completely different way.

Since then, we’ve photographed so many women from Christchurch and Canterbury, from around the country, and even the occasional overseas visitor. We’ve seen the nerves, the excitement, the laughs and the occasional “I can’t believe that’s me!” And we’ve loved every minute of it.

As Smoke&Mirrors Studio grew, we added portrait photography – with exactly the same attention to lighting, posing and quality that goes into our boudoir work.

Today, Smoke&Mirrors is about much more than boudoir. We photograph portraits, maternity, glamour, bodyscapes and art nude – always with the same aim: beautiful photographs that make you feel good about yourself.

And when he’s not at Smoke&Mirrors Studio, Michael photographs two other things he loves: dancers through Dance Project and musicians through Music Project.

The cameras get quite a workout around here.
