Almost everyone who walks into the studio tells us the same thing: “I've never done anything like this before.” That's absolutely fine. You don't need to know what to do with your hands, how to stand or which angle looks best. We'll guide you through everything, making small adjustments to your position and movement until the photograph comes together.

Our job is to make you look fantastic. Your job is simply to relax, trust us and enjoy the experience.

And somewhere along the way, the camera becomes less intimidating. You start to have fun. You start to feel beautiful.

Black and white photography has a particular relationship with boudoir. Without colour to distract the eye, we're left with light, texture, shape and emotion. Skin becomes luminous. Shadows become deeper. Curves become part of the composition.

It's sensual without being fashionable.

Smoke&Mirrors Studio was established as Christchurch's first dedicated boudoir studio, creating a private environment where women can experience professional photography without feeling like they need to be models.

Our approach is relaxed, respectful and completely guided.

You can be as covered or as revealing as you like. You can keep things soft and romantic or take the photographs somewhere darker, bolder and more artistic. There are no rules. Just possibilities.
