A studio experience designed around you

From the moment you arrive, we'll take care of the details. We'll talk about what you want from your photographs, help you decide what to wear and guide you through every pose.

You don't need modelling experience, and you certainly don't need to know what to do in front of a camera. That's our job. You don't need to know how to pose. We do.

Our Christchurch studio gives us complete control over the lighting and environment, allowing us to create polished, high-quality images without relying on the weather or a particular location.

There's no pressure to perform. Just expert photography, a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of encouragement along the way.

Pregnancy can be complicated. You might feel amazing one day and enormous the next. You may love your changing body, feel completely unfamiliar in it, or experience a bit of both.

You don't have to arrive feeling confident. We'll help you find it.

With professional posing, flattering lighting and an experienced eye for creating beautiful images, we'll show you the very best of yourself — without making you look like somebody else.

What your maternity session includes

• Pre-session consultation. We'll talk through your ideas, your preferred look and what you'd like your photographs to say about this moment in your life.
• Styling guidance. We'll help you choose outfits and looks that photograph beautifully and suit your personal style.
• Fully guided photography. We'll direct you through every pose, from head to toe. You don't need any modelling experience.
• Professional studio lighting. Our studio environment gives us the control to create the polished, fashion-inspired look that Smoke&Mirrors Studio is known for.
• A private viewing experience. After your session, you'll see your finished photographs and choose the images you love most.

When should you have your maternity photos taken?

For most women, around 30–36 weeks is a great time for maternity photography. Your bump is beautifully defined, while you're hopefully still feeling reasonably comfortable. Every pregnancy is different, though, so if you're wondering when is right for you, just ask us.

And if you're already further along — don't assume you've missed your opportunity. We've photographed women about to pop, so get in touch.
